Questions and Answers

•How has the invention of photography changed the way we communicate/live?
The invention of photography changed that we communicate with pictures. We can show our friends and relatives the photo and they immediately what we did while this picture was taken without any explanations. And we were able to sent photos and share them with other people who hadn’t join the experience.

•How has the invention of Digital photography changed the way we communicate/live?
Digital Photography made the quality much better and we can delete pictures because they are saved on a memory card instead of being saved on a film. With Digital Photography we can send our photos in as an attachment in an e-mail and the receiver can view or download the photo immediately.

•What do you think about the final comment, “The age we live in encourages us to have one eye on the past, the 19thcentury in which great artists were at once able to make photography a real art, and the other on the future, the new millennium in which photography is set to become one of the great means of transmitting knowledge via new media.”?
I think the great artists in the 19th century really encouraged us with their photographs to make them better and better. First we had the camera obscura in the 18th century and now we already have digital photography just about 200 years later. And in this time it took the artists much longer to save the picture, now we just have to push a little button to make the picture and save it!

•Is digital photography art?
In my opinion digital photography is art, because you are able to change the object you want to photograph and it’s the same like drawing, you draw with your camera and your phantasy a photo, you can photograph a still life as the same you would draw it but the quality is better and it’s probably safer to save it on a memory card or on your computer/laptop than on a canvas or a paper.
